What does a courier service in the San Fernando Valley handle?
Alvy Logistics runs a business courier service in the San Fernando Valley, from Chatsworth and Northridge across to Burbank and Glendale, California. Independent-contractor drivers who work the Valley take the local runs, by car, cargo van or 20 to 26 ft box truck: box trucks are available with the Valley drivers too. The company has one building, a 58,000 sq ft warehouse in Valencia, north of the Newhall Pass, and no Valley office or counter, so a driver comes to your door, dock or studio gate.
The work Valley businesses send by courier falls into a few groups:
- Production runs in Burbank and North Hollywood: drives, paperwork, wardrobe boxes and equipment cases between production offices, post houses and stages.
- Parts and samples for manufacturers around Chatsworth, Van Nuys and Sun Valley.
- Office and legal work along Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks and Encino: originals for signature, checks and files between law and accounting offices, banks and the Van Nuys courthouses. Custody forms and delivery receipts are signed at handoff by the Valley driver, as the driver, whenever your process requires it.
- Medical pickups from clinics and medical office buildings, covered further down.
Urgent one-off jobs follow the same-day courier process. For the rest of the county, see our courier service across Los Angeles County.
How much does a courier cost in the San Fernando Valley?
Valley runs start at $45 by car, $80 by cargo van and $200 by box truck. The minimum charge is the vehicle’s base rate, and it includes the first 20 miles from pickup to drop-off. Beyond that, mileage is added and set on your written quote. Many trips inside the Valley stay at the base rate, as the Valley runs below show; anything extra is quoted.
| Valley trip | Road miles, approx. | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Burbank to Glendale | 6 miles | Base rate only |
| Chatsworth to Van Nuys Airport | 10 miles | Base rate only |
| Sherman Oaks to Glendale | 13 miles | Base rate only |
| Valencia warehouse to Northridge | 24 miles | Base rate plus mileage |
| Valencia warehouse to Van Nuys | 26 miles | Base rate plus mileage |
| Valencia warehouse to Burbank | 30 miles | Base rate plus mileage |
| Valencia warehouse to Glendale | 35 miles | Base rate plus mileage |
Miles are routed between central points, or from the Valencia address, so read them as a guide. Valley pickups carry no charge to bring the driver to you, long runs have no separate long-distance band, tolls pass through at cost and a fuel surcharge may apply. Wait time, added stops, a liftgate and night or weekend work are added only when the job needs them. Your written quote uses your two real addresses and lists every charge before a driver is booked. Our courier cost guide explains how a quote is built.
How quickly can stock from the Valencia warehouse reach the Valley?
The Valley begins just south of the Newhall Pass, so these runs are short. By road from the warehouse, Northridge and Chatsworth are about 24 to 25 miles, Van Nuys about 26, Sherman Oaks and North Hollywood about 28, Burbank about 30 and Glendale about 35. Routing estimates put those drives at roughly 35 to 45 minutes on clear freeways; weekday peaks on the I-5 and the 405 add time, and the coordinator sets the delivery window with that in mind.
Which Valley cities and neighborhoods do you serve?
Burbank, Glendale and North Hollywood
Burbank and Glendale are separate cities on the Valley’s east side, about 6 miles apart. In Burbank much of the work runs between studio lots, production offices and post houses. Glendale mixes downtown office towers with medical buildings and large retail. North Hollywood’s production offices and post houses sit about 4 miles from Burbank, so runs between them stay at the base rate.
Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks and Encino
Van Nuys holds the central Valley’s courthouses and civic offices, light industry, and the aviation businesses around its airport. South of it, Ventura Boulevard carries law, accounting and financial offices and medical buildings through Sherman Oaks and Encino, about 4 miles apart.
Chatsworth and Northridge
At the northwest corner, Chatsworth’s business parks send components, tooling and samples to customers and suppliers across the region. Northridge is about 5 miles away and Sherman Oaks about 18. Deliveries that continue over the Sepulveda Pass are covered on our Santa Monica and the Westside page.
Is there a medical courier for Sherman Oaks and the rest of the Valley?
Yes. Medical courier work in Sherman Oaks, Encino and across the Valley links medical office buildings, outpatient clinics and hospital campuses with reference labs, as STAT runs or on a standing schedule. The clinic or lab packs, seals and labels every specimen, in UN3373 packaging where the rules require it, and the package is handed over unopened. The vehicles have no powered cooling, so a specimen that has to stay cold travels in the sender’s insulated packaging, and controlled substances are not carried. Our medical courier page explains routed pickups and the shipper’s packing duties.
What do you need to book a Valley courier run?
Send the pickup and delivery addresses, the piece count and weights, the delivery window, and how each place receives: a dock, a suite, a front desk or a studio gate. For a studio lot, add the stage or building number and confirm with your contact that the driver’s name is on the gate list. For a standing route, list the stops and the days. Once your account is open, Valley runs are booked and tracked in our online shipper portal, which shows the driver’s location as they cross the Valley, a note when they reach the studio gate or the dock, and pictures from both ends of the run, and businesses are invoiced. For a written quote, phone (661) 344-8766, weekdays from 8am to 8pm Pacific, or send a quote request.
