Which courier services can Long Beach and South Bay businesses book?
Alvy Logistics runs a courier service in Long Beach for businesses and takes runs across the South Bay: Torrance, Carson, Gardena, Hawthorne, Redondo Beach, San Pedro and the area around LAX. Independent-contractor drivers who work this end of the county take the runs, so a job starts at your pickup, not at the warehouse. That warehouse, the company’s only building, is in Valencia at the north end of the county. There is no South Bay office or counter, so drivers come to your dock, gate or front desk.
The work South Bay businesses send by courier tends to follow the harbor and the airport:
- Harbor paperwork: bills of lading, delivery orders and signed originals for importers, forwarders and customs brokers near the ports. When your process requires it, the driver signs your custody form or delivery receipt at handoff, as the driver or carrier.
- Airport-area runs: cartons and documents between freight forwarders near LAX and businesses across the South Bay, and recovery of released shipments from the airline cargo terminals.
- Parts and samples between manufacturers and warehouses in Torrance, Gardena and Carson, including a part for a stopped line.
- Downtown Long Beach messenger work: filings and contracts between law offices, the courthouse and City Hall.
- Pallets and bulky cartons in a 20 to 26 ft box truck, on demand or on a standing route. Box trucks are available with the South Bay drivers.
How much does a courier service in Long Beach cost?
Long Beach and South Bay runs start at $45 by car, $80 by cargo van and $200 by box truck, the same rates used across the service area. Each vehicle’s base rate is also its minimum and covers the first 20 miles between pickup and delivery. Past 20 miles, mileage is added and set on your written quote. The South Bay runs below show which trips stay at the base rate and which add mileage, ahead of any extras.
| South Bay run | Road miles, approx. | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Gardena to Carson | about 6 | Base rate only |
| Torrance to downtown Long Beach | about 13 | Base rate only |
| LAX to downtown Long Beach | about 22 | Base rate plus mileage |
| Valencia warehouse to downtown Long Beach | about 63 | Base rate plus mileage |
Miles are routed between city halls, the LAX terminals and our Valencia address, so a quote on your two real addresses may differ a little. The Valencia row applies only when stock leaves the warehouse: a run that begins in the South Bay never pays for a drive down from the north. A long run, such as Long Beach to San Diego, has no separate long-distance band. Tolls pass through at cost and a fuel surcharge may apply. Wait time, added stops, a liftgate or pallet jack and night or weekend work are added only when the job needs them, and your written quote lists each one before the run is booked.
Is there an LAX courier service for forwarders and businesses near the ports?
Yes, with a limit at each. Around LAX, the work is a carton or a set of documents moving between a freight forwarder near the airport and a business elsewhere in the South Bay, timed to the forwarder’s cutoff. The driver delivers to the forwarder, and the forwarder hands the freight to the airline. Inbound, drivers recover shipments from the airline cargo terminals along Imperial Highway and Century Boulevard for forwarders and shippers, once the airline has released them, and deliver them anywhere in the service area. When a shipment has to fly with a person, an on-board courier can carry it out of LAX by hand.
Airport work is where Alvy found its niche. Expedited runs for air freight forwarders were the core of the business soon after it started in 2020, and in 2024 Alvy acquired Delivery Surfers, Inc., an expediting company based by LAX. It now operates as DSI Transportation, an Alvy company with a staffed office in Inglewood beside the airport, handling airport recovery and tenders, with dispatch shared with Alvy.
At the harbor, moving containers between the terminals and inland yards is drayage, which Alvy does not provide. A courier serves the businesses around the ports instead: delivery orders and originals for importers and customs brokers, samples pulled from a container at a Carson or Wilmington warehouse, and cartons between buildings near the water, all outside the terminal gates.
Do you cover Torrance, Carson and the rest of the South Bay?
Yes, all of it, and runs between neighboring cities usually stay inside the base rate. Redondo Beach to Torrance is about 3 miles, Gardena to Carson about 6, San Pedro to downtown Long Beach about 8 by way of Terminal Island, and Carson to downtown Long Beach about 9. LAX to Torrance is about 11. The 91 starts at the 110 near Gardena and runs east through north Long Beach.
El Segundo, on the south side of the airport, is covered with Santa Monica and the Westside. To the southeast, the Orange County page covers Irvine, Anaheim and Santa Ana.
Can a medical courier in Long Beach serve labs and clinics?
Yes. Medical runs connect clinics, labs, imaging centers and hospital campuses across Long Beach and the South Bay, as STAT calls or scheduled pickups. The sender packs, labels and seals each specimen (UN3373 packaging where required), and the driver hands it over unopened. The vehicles are ambient, so a cold specimen travels in the sender’s insulated pack, and controlled substances are not carried. Our medical courier page sets out how STAT and routed work is booked.
What goes into a Long Beach courier quote request?
Send both addresses, the number of pieces and their weights, the delivery window and how each end receives: a dock, a suite, or a gated yard with check-in. Near the harbor, add any gate or appointment rules. South Bay accounts place each run in our online shipper portal and see the driver’s position as it moves down the 405 or the 710, check-in updates at a harbor gate or yard, and photos when the freight is picked up and dropped, with business clients invoiced. Forwarders and 3PLs around LAX and the harbor that run their own TMS can usually plug it into the portal. For a written quote, phone (661) 344-8766 (8am to 8pm Pacific, Monday to Friday) or send the quote form. For pickups elsewhere in the county, see our courier service across Los Angeles County.
